The cards

Illustration of Helena, Lume's fictional persona.

A card shows what is at stake — and that is what makes it useful.

The deck has 78 cards. The first 22 are the major arcana, the big figures of a life: beginnings, choices, losses, what is learned along the way. The other 56 are the minor arcana, divided into four suits — Cups, Pentacles, Wands and Swords — and they speak of what happens on an ordinary day: what is felt, what is built, what moves, what is thought.

A card can appear reversed. In Lume, that is not its opposite: it is the same energy out of place, stuck, turned inward. Both readings are on this page, always.

Beside each one, what is useful to think about — the questions the card opens. If you want to try it, draw a spread and then come back here with the cards that came up.
