The cards · Wands · Minor arcana
Six of Wands
recognition · visibility · merit · applause · expectation
Six of Wands shows the road back after a public victory. Someone rides crowned among people raising staves in sign of passage, and recognition changes the relation with those who applaud. It is the card of merit received: what you did becomes seen, and with the applause comes the silent question of how to remain equal to it.
Draw the cards Bring your question, draw the cards and see what they show.
Reversed
Upside down, it speaks of recognition that does not arrive, applause that turns addictive, or a victory lived by proxy. It also appears when someone depends on others' approval to know what they are worth, and can no longer measure their own work without an audience watching.
Light
- Well-earned recognition
- Courage to show yourself
- Taking a compliment well
- Victory that lifts the team
Shadow
- Dependence on applause
- Seeking the spotlight at any cost
- Fear of not being good enough
- Victory used as comparison
Questions to notice
- For whom are you proving your worth?
- What would change if no one saw your result?
- Can you take a compliment without changing the subject?
What the card shows
Psychological aspects
It involves self-esteem and the relation between your own worth and the external gaze. It helps to notice how much of your effort is made to please and how much is made because it makes sense, and to tell healthy pride apart from dependence on approval.
Emotional aspects
Satisfaction, relief, pride. On the other side, the fear that visibility may stir envy, the guilt of standing out and the emptiness that sometimes appears when the applause ends and no one comments on anything anymore.
Behavioural aspects
Accepting a compliment without deflecting, presenting your own work, showing results, celebrating in public. Out of balance, exposing achievements to receive validation, comparing yourself constantly and avoiding tasks in which no highlight would be possible.
In daily life
Relationships
It speaks of admiration inside the bond and of the balance between shining and letting the other shine. It also deals with the silent competition between partners, when one person's success is lived as the other's defeat.
Work
Visibility, promotion, a recognised project, a well-received presentation. Along with the result comes exposure: more people watching, more expectation, more people with an opinion about your path.
Personal life
An invitation to name what you do well, without false modesty. It also asks for attention to the areas where you only apply yourself when there is a chance of being seen by someone.
The image
Riding crowned with laurel, a knight advances among figures raising staves with branches tied to them, as a sign of passage. He carries an equally adorned staff in his fist. The group walks on the same plane as the knight: recognition is given on common ground, by people with names and faces.
