Seven of Wands
defense · perseverance · resistance · position · exhaustion
Seven of Wands is about holding a position already won. A figure on high ground defends his own space with one staff against six rising from below. It is the card of persistence at a numerical disadvantage, of effort no one may see, and of the resolve to keep going when reason would advise retreat.

Reversed
In a reversed orientation, it points to a defense turned into paranoia or automatic resistance to any change. It can also suggest the exhaustion of one who fights alone against everyone, and the difficulty of admitting that part of the opposition is sensible.
Light
- Firmness on difficult ground
- Holding a position
- Long resistance
- Defending what was won
Shadow
- Fight kept up out of habit

Questions to notice
- What exactly are you defending, and is it still worth the energy?
- Who is actually against you, and who merely disagrees?
- How would stepping back be, without living it as defeat?
What the card shows
Psychological aspects
It involves the firmness of your own values under pressure and the fear of losing ground. It shows the difference between sustaining a conviction and fighting out of habit, and the need to know when what you defend is still yours.
Emotional aspects
Tension, weariness, a background of wounded pride. It is common to feel alone in the position, with the impression that any relaxation would be read by others as a sign of weakness.
Behavioural aspects
It includes repeating the argument, keeping boundaries, reorganising priorities in order to hold on. In excess, it appears as difficulty in listening, immediate defensive answers and an isolation presented as a strategic choice.
In daily life
Relationships
It speaks of a defensive position inside the bond: someone who feels demanded of and answers defensively, or who carries alone the effort of keeping the relationship standing. It asks for listening before replying.
Work
Defending an idea, a post or a professional territory before more people and more pressure. It also describes a project run by one person alone, when it would already be time to ask someone for help.
Personal life
It deals with defending your own time and your own boundaries. It is worth checking whether the tiredness comes from a real battle or from keeping your guard up as a precaution, with nothing actually threatening.
The image
On high ground, a man strikes with a staff, wearing boots of different colours, while six staves rise against him from below. The mismatched footwear is usually read as improvisation under pressure; the slope of the ground shows how much the position demands of whoever occupies it.
