King of Wands
leadership · vision · mastery · initiative · structure
The King of Wands is drive that has become structure. He sits on the throne with his body turned to the side and his gaze ahead, like someone who follows the horizon while holding up the house. It is the card of outward mastery: the capacity to decide, to sustain the decision, to organize what surrounds him and to answer for the direction taken, without ceasing to act on what he believes.

Reversed
Inverted, command hardens: authoritarianism, the vanity of one who does not listen, decisions made only to keep up an image of strength. It may also point to someone who does not take on the leadership that already falls to him, for fear of exposure to judgment or of erring in public.
Light
- Assumed leadership
- Long-term vision
- Bearing the consequences
- Organising and delegating well
Shadow
- Authoritarianism that does not listen
- Centralising everything
- Vanity wounded by disagreement
- Avoiding the leadership already yours
Questions to notice
- Which decision have you postponed for fear of bearing its cost?
- Do you listen to disagreement or merely manage those who disagree?
- Does your power enlarge the lives of those near you, or reduce them?
What the card shows
Psychological aspects
It corresponds to the capacity to want firmly and to answer for the consequences of that wanting. It involves integrating ambition and ethics, acknowledging your own power without using it to compensate for an old insecurity.
Emotional aspects
Security, pride, a good dose of stubbornness. Out of balance, irritation appears quickly before any obstacle to authority, along with the loneliness of someone who is only seen in the role of the one in charge.
Behavioural aspects
It includes deciding, delegating, hiring, defending a project, putting your face behind a choice and bearing its cost. In excess, centralisation, impatience with those who think differently and difficulty in admitting your own error.
In daily life
Relationships
It speaks of a firm base and of security that is offered, but also of the risk of treating the bond as a project to administer. A person who is led is not a partner: leadership must know how to step away so that the other can grow.
Work
A position of command, your own enterprise, leading a team, a strategic decision. It asks for clarity about what you want to build and the courage to sustain choices while the results have not yet appeared.
Personal life
It deals with taking charge of your own life, item by item: finances, health, time, home. It invites you to stop outsourcing important decisions and to set priorities with the same seriousness with which you meet other people's obligations.
The image
Gripping the wand firmly, a king sits on a throne whose backrest bears salamanders in relief. At his feet, a small salamander curls up against the seat. His body is turned to the side, but his head aims forward, and the open background shows lions and salamanders on the same plane as the throne.
