Card Temperance

measure · integration · patience · healing · rhythm

Temperance speaks of measure. Blending what needs time to combine: energy and rest, reason and affection, work and presence. As a tool for self-knowledge, it appears when the way out is not in choosing an extreme but in sustaining a living middle ground, adjusted with patience and corrected whenever the measure is lost.

Reversed

The reversal shows the same search for balance out of balance: swings between excess and deprivation, beginning with enthusiasm and abandoning, alternating rigid discipline and total neglect. It can also be the impatience of wanting the mixture's result before its elements have combined. Worth noticing where the search for the right measure became just another way of reproaching yourself.

Light

  • Finding the right measure for each area
  • Sustaining a rhythm over time
  • Integrating what seemed incompatible
  • Patience with slow processes

Shadow

  • Oscillating between everything and nothing
  • Confusing moderation with lukewarmness
  • Rushing what requires ripening
  • Rigid order that eliminates the spontaneous

Questions to notice

  • Where do you go from one extreme to another without noticing?
  • What in your life needs time to combine?
  • What changes if you adjust the dose instead of changing everything?

What the card shows

Psychological aspects

An inner dialogue between parts that often oppose each other. The ability to let reason and desire converse without one needing to silence the other, and to notice when you are at the wrong proportion.

Emotional aspects

Regulation: joy without exaltation, sadness without despair. It is not the absence of emotion, it is emotion at an intensity the body can keep up with through the week.

Behavioural aspects

Maintaining rhythms of sleep, food, training and work in doses that fit the routine. Also the recurring slip: planning an extreme and falling into the opposite days later.

In daily life

Relationships

A bond built at a steady rhythm, with small recurring conversations instead of grand gestures. It asks for adjustment between two different tempos without cancelling either one.

Work

Leading a process instead of forcing a result: learning a skill, bringing a team back together, combining different competences in a single project.

Personal life

Health, sleep, food, the practice of something repeated. The gain here comes from habit and not from the intensity of a single day.

The image

An angel with wide wings pours water from one cup into another without spilling a drop, one foot in the water and one on firm ground. On the ground, a narrow path climbs toward a horizon with a sun and a luminous crown. The scene joins the gesture of mixing and the one of moving forward.
