The cards · XI · Major arcana
Strength
inner strength · patience · gentle mastery · courage · instinct
Strength speaks of a power that does not need to impose itself. It is the ability to deal with what in you is raw, insistent or instinctive without crushing it and without yielding to it. As a tool for self-knowledge, it often appears when the task is not to win a fight, but to remain steady and serene before something that is not resolved by haste.

Reversed
Inverted, Strength describes the same energy out of balance: the rigidity of one who tries to control everything by will, or the surrender of one who confuses gentleness with an absence of limits. It also points to forces spent on self-pressure, the tiredness of sustaining an image of firmness, and distrust of one's own capacity to endure. It is worth noticing where effort ceased to be steadiness and became violence against oneself.

- Where do you spend energy trying to control what does not depend on will?
- Which impulse do you feed without looking at it?
What the card shows
Psychological aspects
The relationship with your own impulses. It represents the maturity of recognising desires and angers without turning them into automatic action. When this function is active, there is firmness without violence; when it is missing, you oscillate between repressing and exploding.
Emotional aspects
Intense emotions are felt fully without taking over the scene. Tiredness, irritation and affection coexist without one needing to erase the other. It asks for patience with yourself, especially when the result takes longer than you would like.
Behavioural aspects
Persisting with method at something difficult, caring for the body, sustaining routines, saying no without aggression. Also carrying too much alone and postponing the request for help out of pride.
In daily life
Relationships
It speaks of patience with the other's timing and of boundaries stated without violence. It appears when someone chooses to deal with what is difficult in the bond instead of reacting in the heat of the moment, and also when the person endures in silence far beyond what would be healthy.
Work
Persistence in long tasks, handling conflicts without escalation, work with people or animals in which authority has to be earned and not imposed. It asks for attention to the silent exhaustion of those who never complain.
Personal life
Strength to change habits that resist, to care for the body and to keep up a practice even without seeing results. It invites you to exchange harsh demand for gentle constancy with yourself.
The image
A crowned figure, unarmed, rests a hand on the head of a gentle lion, and above her shines the infinity symbol. The garland of flowers and the loose chain indicate that the bond comes from recognition, not from a leash. The lion represents instinct and the raw energy that lets itself be led.
