Knight of Cups
affective drive · courtship · idealism · heart in motion · romanticism
The Knight of Cups is affection in motion: he advances at an easy pace, no weapon in hand, cup held before the body, and the drive here is not conquest but offering. This is the card of taking the initiative to say what one feels, to propose something, to pursue what is wanted with tenderness and persistence. It is also the energy of idealism applied to causes that depend on empathy, on caring, mediating, keeping company with those in need. In self-knowledge, it points to the difference between loving well and wanting to save. The risk is loving one's own image of the beloved and mistaking intensity of intention for real presence in daily life.

Reversed
Inverted, the Knight of Cups shows affection that promises and does not sustain. Many declarations, little routine; enthusiasm that lasts as long as the courtship and vanishes once the relationship turns ordinary. It can also be reverie without action, of one who idealizes from afar and never comes close, or cares only for what cannot be had. Another face is the tired savior, busy with others' problems to avoid looking at his own. It is worth checking whether your movement heads toward a real person or a comfortable idea.

What the card shows
Psychological aspects
Affective impulse transformed into action: desire that organizes itself as initiative. It speaks of the passage from fantasy to gesture and of what happens when that passage does not occur and the energy spins inside the head, producing plans that never move from the spot.
Emotional aspects
Enchantment, idealization and a wish to care. Emotion that intensifies when there is a goal and that can cool quickly when the goal becomes daily presence, without mystery and full of practical tasks.
Behavioural aspects
To seek, offer, accompany, mediate conflicts, communicate what you feel. Also to promise more than you can fulfill and to change direction when the matter starts to demand constancy instead of a handsome gesture.
In daily life
Relationships
Courtship, declaration, proposal, an attempt at reconnection. The card values initiative and warns: an expressed feeling needs to fit into practical life, with schedules, tiredness, bills and the boring matters of every day.
Work
Projects driven by empathy and vocation, gentle negotiation, mediation of conflicts. It asks that enthusiasm come accompanied by a schedule, because good intention does not replace the delivery promised to those who depend on it.
Personal life
An invitation to act in the direction of your own desire, even without guarantee of return, and to check whether your care for others is leaving time for what does you good. Also about learning to receive a proposal without immediate distrust.
The image
Riding at an easy pace, a knight advances holding a cup in front of the body and with no weapon in hand. The landscape has a river and low hills. The absence of weapons evokes a mission of offering and not of confrontation; the tranquil step of the horse evokes movement meant to be sustainable; the river evokes the emotional course he follows.
