Knight of Swords
momentum · haste · conviction · speed · verbal combat
The Knight of Swords is the energy that charges into action the moment an idea takes shape. He rides at full gallop with his sword raised, like someone defending a thesis before it cools. As a tool for self-knowledge, he appears when you decide something suddenly and want it done at once, or when a matter calls for a firm stance on short notice. He has courage and he has haste; the quality of the outcome depends on how much that haste takes the surrounding world into account.

Reversed
Reversed, the knight appears ungoverned or stalled. On one side, speaking before thinking, tilting at windmills, provoking conflict so as not to face one's own doubt. On the other, having the decision made and never carrying it out, keeping everything in endless theoretical debate. It can also point to the exhaustion of someone living at permanent urgency, no longer telling what matters from what merely looks grave.

Questions to notice
- What would you gain by waiting a day before sending that message?
- Is this haste the matter's, or is it yours?
- Where has your conviction closed your ears?
What the card shows
Psychological aspects
A predominance of the rational function in accelerated mode: taking a position, arguing, refuting. Under tension, certainty arrives quickly and revision comes late or does not come. Finding intervals between the stimulus and the response is the possible maturation of this energy.
Emotional aspects
Excitement, irritability, urgency. Impatience is usually the most visible affect, and behind it there is often a fear of erring through hesitation. The body also registers the rhythm: tension, short sleep, accumulated nervousness.
Behavioural aspects
Acting immediately, writing and sending in the heat of the moment, piling up simultaneous tasks, driving fast. Also the readiness to pick a fair fight without calculating too much what it will cost.
In daily life
Relationships
Quick declarations, intense arguments, impulsive resumptions. The affection is sincere and arrives without brakes; it asks for the care not to turn the relationship into a debate and to let the other finish the sentence before answering.
Work
Short deadlines, quick decisions, changes made overnight. Excellent for untying knots and poorly suited to constructions that require steadiness, fine handling and time to mature.
Personal life
A general acceleration: a full calendar, short patience, difficulty staying still. It is worth measuring what really asks for speed and what is being done in a hurry merely out of the habit of keeping a high pace.
The image
Galloping across open country, a knight holds the sword raised and the cape in the wind, while the trees in the background all bend to the same side. The clouds too are dragged in the direction of the ride and the horse advances in a straight line, with no obstacle in the frame. The whole composition deals with direction and speed, and nothing in it suggests doubt about where to go.
